Celestine heart with great crystals

A celestine heart from Madagascar with light blue crystal points that emerge like ice shards from the heart's inner surface.

Celestine is strontium sulfate (SrSO₄). The delicate light blue coloration is caused by traces of radiation defects in the crystal lattice and is a rare color in the mineral kingdom, appearing cool and calm.

The heart shape is created by a selective cut from a larger celestine geode. The open inner form, where the crystals remain freely visible, is a deliberate decision by the cutter.

Celestine is soft with a Mohs hardness of 3-3.5; for a heart shape, the outer edge must be polished with particular care to avoid micro-cracks along the contour.

Prolonged UV exposure can fade the coloration, so placement in indirect light is recommended.
