The second opening means that the geode has broken open in two different places. The crystalline interior is visible from two directions. This geode-specific geometry is a rare variation and makes the piece mineralogically and visually interesting.

Uruguayan amethyst from the deposits in Artigas and Salto is considered the darkest amethyst classification worldwide. The typical deep purple coloration comes from high iron concentrations during mineralization.

Amethyst belongs to the quartz family. The purple color is caused by iron substitutions in the crystal lattice and by natural irradiation in the host rock over long geological periods.
