Rose quartz is the pink variety of quartz. The color is caused by traces of manganese and titanium in the microcrystalline structure. Material of sphere-cutting quality is a deposit-specific selection because the pink coloration must be homogeneous throughout the entire volume.

The spherical shape maximizes the optical effect of the coloration. With backlighting, the piece becomes translucent and takes on a warm pink glow. Usually, rose quartz spheres are significantly smaller; the gallery format documented here is a distinct collector's dimension.
