Uniquely intense rose quartz sphere with a perfect star on both sides

A polished star rose quartz sphere with the classic six-rayed asterism effect, which appears on both sides of the sphere when illuminated correctly.

Asterism is caused by tiny rutile needle inclusions in the rose quartz crystal lattice. They are oriented in three crystallographic axes and each reflect light as a fine ray. The superposition of the three reflection rays results in the six-rayed star.

For the star to be visible on both sides of a sphere, the raw material must be completely permeated with uniformly oriented rutile needles. In most rose quartz spheres, the star only appears on one side.

Rose quartz belongs to the quartz family. The delicate pink coloration is caused by tiny trace elements, believed to be manganese and titanium, which form color centers in the crystal lattice.
