Intense rose quartz sphere with a nearly perfect star on both sides

A polished star rose quartz sphere with the classic six-ray asterism effect, visible on both sides of the sphere.

Asterism is created by tiny rutile needle inclusions in the rose quartz crystal lattice. They are oriented in three crystallographic axis directions and reflect light as fine rays. The superposition of the three reflection rays creates the six-ray star figure.

Rose quartz belongs to the quartz family. The delicate pink color is created by tiny trace elements, manganese and titanium are suspected, which form color centers in the crystal lattice.

Brazilian star rose quartz from Minas Gerais is the reference quality for asterism.
