Large Rose Quartz with included Muscovite crystals and Star Rose Quartz

A large rose quartz from Brazil with ingrown muscovite mica crystals and star rose quartz areas.

Muscovite is a mica mineral that crystallizes in pegmatitic veins parallel to quartz. The fine, leafy muscovite platelets in the stone document the pegmatitic genesis of the deposit.

The star rose quartz areas are formed by tiny rutile needle inclusions, which are oriented in three crystallographic axis directions and reflect light as a fine beam. When the stone is rotated, a six-pointed star appears.

Rose quartz belongs to the quartz family. The pink color is caused by tiny trace elements, presumably manganese and titanium, which form color centers in the crystal lattice.

Brazilian rose quartz from Minas Gerais is the reference quality for asterism.

A collector's item with didactic value: muscovite accompaniment shows the pegmatite genesis, asterism shows the optical effect of the rutile inclusions.
