Lapis lazuli in great shape

A lapis lazuli from the Himalayas in a distinct form. Slender, elongated geometry with classic deposit provenance, with a royal blue basic color and fine golden pyrite dots in the polished surface.

Himalayan lapis lazuli comes from Afghan and Pakistani deposits in Sar-e-Sang, Badakhshan. These are the historically oldest documented premium sources. The royal blue coloring with white calcite veins and golden pyrite inclusions is the typical material signature.

The Sar-e-Sang deposits have been mined for over 6,000 years. Lapis lazuli from these sources adorned Tutankhamun's death mask. As the pigment ultramarine, it was used in medieval manuscripts and was at times considered more valuable than gold.
