Lapis lazuli is a silicate rock consisting of lazurite, calcite, and pyrite. The intense blue coloration comes from the sulfur-containing lazurite component. The Afghan deposits in the Badakhshan province have been considered the best source for premium lapis for over 6000 years.

The white calcite veins and golden pyrite inclusions are not cracks, but naturally formed mineral fillings of fine fissures. They document the co-genetic formation of the three mineral phases within the same rock complex.

The color is completely natural; the stone has neither been dyed nor lacquered. A dense display case object with a clear mineralogical composition and cultural depth.
