A large polished agate slice with an irregular natural outer edge, subtly gilded with fine gold leaf, mounted on a black rotating stand.

The agate banding shows warm amber, honey, and deep reddish-brown tones, broken by a rock crystal "eye" in the center. The irregular outer edge has been preserved in its natural form, giving the slice its sculptural quality.

Agate forms in volcanic gas cavities when silicic acid solutions are deposited layer by layer on the cavity walls. The alternating bands document phases of different chemical compositions of the solution water over thousands of years.

The gold embellishment on the outer edge highlights the natural banding line without altering the agate structure itself.

The rotating stand allows both sides of the slice to be viewed, a rare form of presentation usually only seen in museum contexts.
