An agate lamp from Brazil as a handcrafted unique piece. The lamp's construction follows traditional Brazilian workshop craftsmanship, a flat-cut agate slice vertically staged with integrated backlighting.

Agate is a banded chalcedony variety of microcrystalline quartz aggregates. The concentric banding documents changing solution phases during geode filling. With backlighting, the fine banding lines become translucently visible.

Handmade means that all steps are performed manually: cutting, polishing, drilling, wiring, base construction. Mass production with CNC processing is avoided to preserve the individual material characteristics.

The Brazilian agate processing tradition dates back to the German Idar-Oberstein gemstone industry. In the 19th century, this industry exported technological know-how to Rio Grande do Sul.

Today, the Brazilian agate industry is a tradition in itself with a worldwide premium classification. The lamp combines a mineralogical display function with a daily usable lighting construction.
