An agate lamp from Brazil. A classic display variation with an illuminable construction of gallery dimensions, featuring a translucent agate slice as the glowing main element.

The agate lamp construction uses a cut agate slice as the illuminable main element. When the internal lighting is switched on, the natural banding stratigraphy of the agate shines through and becomes visible as luminous banding.

Agate is a microcrystalline quartz with a characteristic banding structure. The individual banding layers are formed by cyclical changes in solution during the original cavity filling process.

Brazilian agates from Rio Grande do Sul provide the material. The cutting and polishing are carried out in specialized workshops in the region. The banding lines document alternating solution phases during the original geode filling.

The lamp combines a mineralogical material display with functional lighting, a curatorial collector's presentation beyond mere display cabinet pieces.
