A Uruguayan amethyst geode with a rim of rock crystal and chalcedony. The three-mineral stratigraphy makes the geochemical history of the geode visible through multiple layers from the outside in.

The stratigraphy shows a clearly readable three-phase genesis. Chalcedony microcrystalline banding as the first solution phase on the outside, rock crystal transition as an uncolored quartz phase in the middle, main amethyst phase with purple tips in the center.

Uruguayan amethyst is considered the darkest, most deeply violet-colored amethyst variety worldwide. The rock crystal-chalcedony rim is a deposit-related premium feature that does not occur in every geode.
