Exceptional Uruguay amethyst geode with great color and broad edge

A Uruguayan amethyst geode with strong color and an unusually wide agate rim. The purple crystal interior stands out sharply against the band-like framing of microcrystalline material.

Uruguayan amethyst crystallizes in volcanic geodes of the Arapey Basalt Formation. The agate rim forms in the first mineralization phase, when the solution chemistry still favored microcrystal growth. Only in later phases did the macroscopic amethyst points grow.

A wide agate rim is a collectible detail property. It documents an extensive first solution phase and shows the stratigraphy of the geode with book-opening clarity.

What makes this piece special is the combination of strong amethyst color and the wide framing. Uruguayan geodes with both properties simultaneously are rare.
