A pyrite sun from Peru on a stand. A radially-radiating aggregate with a metallic gold-sheen surface, which appears like a compact sun disc.
Pyrite suns form when microcrystalline pyrite grows outwards from a central point, creating a sun-like geometry. Such aggregates crystallize in clay-sediment layers under specific pressure conditions.
Peruvian deposits in Huanzala yield high-quality pyrite suns with pronounced radial symmetry. The metallic surface and radiating form make each piece unique.
Pyrite is hard (Mohs 6.5) but can oxidize under unfavorable storage conditions. Dry storage is the professional preservation method for maintaining its golden luster.
A Peruvian collector's item with radially-radiating sun geometry and documented deposit provenance.
Protect from moisture, may oxidize. Store in a dry place. Dry clean with a soft cloth.
