Rare perfect amethyst specimen with 5 clear calcite tips and pink amethyst

A rare amethyst specimen from Uruguay with five clearly formed calcite points distributed over the pink amethyst point field. A rare multi-phase geode, in which two minerals visibly document their growth sequence.

Calcite points in a pink amethyst specimen form when carbonate-rich residual solutions circulate in the geode after the amethyst growth is complete. Calcite points then crystallize in individual spots.

Pink amethyst forms due to hematite inclusions in the quartz crystal lattice. This variety of amethyst comes almost exclusively from Artigas, Uruguay.

What makes this specimen special is the number of five clearly terminated calcite points. Typically, there are one to two calcite phases per geode; five in one piece is a collector's rarity.

Calcite crystals are Mohs 3, significantly softer than quartz (Mohs 7), and acid-sensitive. Special care must be taken during cleaning.

The geological depth of the multi-phase mineralization and the unusually high number of calcite terminations make this piece a mineralogical study. A display in a showcase allows the individual points to be examined from multiple perspectives.
