Very dark Uruguay amethyst geode with a large amethyst-rock crystal flower and colorful agate eyes

A very dark amethyst geode from Uruguay. Three collector-relevant special features in one piece: deep dark purple crystal coloration, a striking amethyst rock crystal blossom inside, and several colorful agate eyes on the outer edge.

The amethyst rock crystal blossom shows a rare growth combination. From the amethyst base of the geode, individual crystals grew upwards, their inner core already clear rock crystal substance. The outer layer remained violet-colored. A mineralogy of a double layer, instructive for quartz collectors.

The colorful agate eyes on the outer edge formed in the early phase of geode formation. Different trace element concentrations in local solution islands created various agate colorations. Three generations of quartz mineralogy visible in one piece.

Uruguayan material from the Artigas Basin is among the most intense amethyst deposits worldwide. Specimens with this variety of growth phases are valued as didactic top pieces in the collector's trade.
