Uruguayan amethyst crystallizes in volcanic geodes of the Arapey Basalt Formation. The heart-shaped geode geometry is a form variation due to its discovery. Distinct heart shapes arise from specific fracture lines in the surrounding basalt.

The yellow calcite crystal is a secondary mineralization phase. It grew on already formed quartz points after the amethyst growth was complete. Iron substitutions color the calcite yellow. Clear yellow calcites of block size are a premium collector's detail.

The combination of dark premium color, heart-shaped geometry, and large yellow calcite is rare worldwide in this block size. The Uruguayan deposits in Artigas and Salto supply this premium material.
